About the Role:
As a Staff Tax Accountant at Tandem Advisors, you will prepare individual and business tax returns, maintain clients’ bookkeeping and accounting systems, and assist with financial statement preparation. You will partner directly with clients and firm leadership to gather information, resolve accounting issues, and support tax planning strategies that minimize client tax liability, while building a foundation in tax research and client service with hands-on mentorship — an ideal opportunity for an early-career accountant or CPA candidate. This is an exempt position reporting to a supervisor or manager, working closely with partners, colleagues, and clients.

Key Responsibilities:
Tax
Prepares individual income tax returns and analyzes client records of income and expenses in order to get a complete picture of financial situation.
Prepares business income tax returns and analyzes business client financial statements and records to make any necessary tax adjustments.
Communicates (both in verbal and written form) with clients, supervisor, and partners to obtain information required to prepare tax returns.
Prepares estimated federal and state income tax payments.
Advises supervisor on strategies for minimizing client tax liability.
Brings areas of concern to supervisor and conducts tax research as needed.
Keeps abreast of current developments in the area of tax law.
Research and prepare work papers for book to tax differences.
Researches tax law, regulations, rulings, and case law for complex tax situations.
Client Accounting & Bookkeeping
Ensure accurate and appropriate recording and analysis of revenues and expenses.
Resolve accounting discrepancies and irregularities.
Compile and analyze financial information to prepare adjusting journal entries to ensure client financial statements are accurate and complete.
Provide guidance and training to clients regarding their accounting systems.
Prepare workpapers requested by external auditors for clients.
Required Skills:
Education
Bachelor’s or master’s degree in accounting or business is required.
Active Colorado CPA license, reciprocal license, or CPA candidate is required.
Experience
0 - 2 years tax preparation experience is required.
0 - 2 years accounting experience is required.
Technical Skills
Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word) is required.
Experience with Lacerte or similar tax software is preferred.
Adobe Acrobat and QuickBooks experience is preferred.
General software and computer hardware skills are required.
